Skin, Hair and Nails Vitamins: What to Look for on the Label
分享
When comparing skin, hair and nails vitamins, start with the full formula and directions. A beauty supplement’s name is only a starting point: the ingredient list, amounts and suitability information tell you much more about what you are buying.
Read the nutrient table before the headline
Note the named vitamins and minerals, their amounts and the daily portion those amounts refer to. Ingredients such as biotin, zinc and vitamin C appear in many beauty supplement discussions, but the name of an ingredient alone does not establish what a particular product will do for you.
Check whether a stated benefit refers to a specific nutrient and whether the wording is precise. A statement about maintaining normal skin is different from a promise to reverse ageing, regrow hair or deliver a visible result within a fixed number of days. The ASA’s health-claims guidance explains why nutrient claims need supporting evidence and appropriate wording.
Compare the full daily amount
Use the recommended portion rather than comparing a single capsule from each brand. Read our NRV label guide if a percentage column is unfamiliar. Higher percentages are not a shortcut to choosing the right supplement.
If you already take a multivitamin, put the two labels side by side. Highlight repeated vitamins and minerals before deciding whether to combine them. Ask a pharmacist to review the combination if you are unsure.
Check ingredients, allergens and dietary suitability
- Read the complete ingredient list, not only the highlighted actives.
- Check capsule ingredients as well as the contents.
- If a formula contains collagen, look for its stated source.
- Check allergens and any relevant pregnancy, breastfeeding or medication advice.
- Use current pack information if you are comparing an older photograph or article.
A VITTOSKIN label example
VITTOSKIN is Vitto’s UK-made day and night skin supplement. The packaging image on its product page lists biotin, zinc and vitamin C among the day ingredients, and marine collagen, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid in the night formula. The label identifies soya in the day formula and fish in the night formula. Check the full pack information before choosing it.
For a closer explanation of the format, read inside Vitto’s day and night routine.
When a supplement is not the next step
If you are worried about hair loss, the NHS recommends speaking to a GP. Hair loss can have different causes, and buying a beauty supplement does not identify the cause. Persistent or concerning skin or nail changes also deserve individual advice rather than an assumption of a vitamin deficiency.
